What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit includes a thorough intake conversation about your health history, goals, and any concerns. Dr. Shaw will perform a gentle assessment and, when appropriate, begin treatment in the same visit. New patient appointments are typically 30-60 minutes.

How do I book an appointment?

All appointments are booked online through Jane App, our secure scheduling platform. You can book directly at olyfamilies.janeapp.com. If you have questions before booking, feel free to reach out via the contact page.

Question 3

Do you see walk-ins?

Accepted Answer

We are an appointment-based practice and do not accept walk-ins. This allows us to give each patient the time and attention they deserve. Please book online through Jane App.

Question 4

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment online through Jane App at olyfamilies.janeapp.com. We ask that you do so at least 12 hours before your scheduled visit.

Question 5

Is there a cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We have a 12-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations or reschedules made less than 12 hours before your appointment — as well as no-shows — are subject to a $50 late cancellation fee. This fee applies to new patient appointments and update appointments.

Is chiropractic care safe for babies and newborns?

Accepted Answer

Yes — pediatric chiropractic care is very different from adult care. The techniques used for infants involve extremely gentle, fingertip-level pressure. Many families seek care for newborns after birth to address tension from the birthing process, latching difficulties, or general fussiness.

What should I do to prepare my baby for their appointment?

Accepted Answer

Please have your baby in a fresh diaper and happily fed before their appointment. A content, comfortable baby makes for the best visit for everyone!  If your baby uses a pacifier, or bottle feeds, please have these items with you at their appointment.  Babies may remain in their clothing for their treatment.

What conditions do you treat in children?

Dr. Shaw works with infants and children experiencing a wide range of concerns, including birth-related tension, torticollis, latching difficulties, colic, ear infections, growing pains, scoliosis, general musculoskeletal discomfort, and wellness care. Each child's care plan is tailored to their individual needs.

What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tension in the connective tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Using very light touch — typically no more than the weight of a nickel — Dr. Shaw evaluates and supports the body's natural rhythms to relieve pain and improve function.

Does craniosacral therapy hurt?

Accepted Answer

No. Craniosacral therapy is one of the gentlest forms of bodywork available. Most patients find it deeply relaxing. You may feel subtle sensations of warmth, tingling, or gentle movement as the body releases tension.

Who can benefit from craniosacral therapy?

Accepted Answer

CST is appropriate for people of all ages — from newborns to older adults. It is especially beneficial for those experiencing chronic pain, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, stress-related conditions, birth trauma, and neurological concerns.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Dr. Shaw is specially trained in perinatal chiropractic care and uses techniques adapted for each stage of pregnancy. Care during pregnancy can help relieve back pain, pelvic discomfort, round ligament pain, and sciatica, and may support optimal fetal positioning.

When during pregnancy can I start care?

Accepted Answer

You can begin care at any point during your pregnancy — first trimester through the final weeks. Dr. Shaw welcomes patients at any stage.

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are in-network with many major carriers including Aetna, BCBS, Kaiser, Premera, Regence/UMP, United Healthcare, and more. Please visit our Fees & Insurance page for the full list of accepted plans.

What if I don't have insurance or my plan isn't accepted?

Accepted Answer

We offer a 25% discount for self-pay.  See our Fees & Insurance page for pricing.  You may receive a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement if Dr. Shaw does not bill your insurance.

Question 16

Do you offer a prompt pay discount?

Accepted Answer

Yes — patients who promptly pay receive a 25% discount.  This discount is applied automatically when payment is made at your appointment.
